1. Buy 5 bags of sand and put them in the boot (I've also got a shovel in the boot as well to dig myself out if necessary):

2. Drop the tyre pressures on the rears:

Might be helpful to others?
That will work, however on normal wet roads I was carrying about the same weight and the front went very light indeed round corners, something to watch out for.
and if you have a cat buy some extra cat sand and you can use it later when the snow has gone
