i may look into doing this just unsure as to if i like it or not i may do it and fit them with a switch 2 isolate so they are not on all the time when the doors open etc.

i have a load of 12v LEDs already with the wires on

no fuse as leds draw nothing. i glued the bulbs in with a bit of super glue keeping them all the same way..so reds down the out side and blacks in the middle as in the picture, just try to keep them as neat as possible as to much wire stops the plate from sitting back right...

What if there is a malfunction/short and it starts drawing more than it should do, heats up, catches fire, etc ?

You probably haven't heard about the guy who had LED eyebrows on his IS200, and something went wrong when the car was in a garage (WIM) and they started smoking and nearly caught fire ?

You really need to put a fuse on there, because if something does go wrong then you could have a fire there before your igntion ring fuse blows (which will have a much higher value).

I have to agree here for the extra effort of putting a very low fuse in may save your car should something malfunction.

not saying it will or wont but its better to be safe than sorry

everything i install on mine or other peoples cars are always fused, aditionally to the car fuse

9/10 a cars fuse does more than just the lighting circuit, so will be around a 15amp fuse or more thus if a led fails and shorts the fuse wont blow but wiring may catch fire or smulder and short other wires.

always play safe mate

yer might take your advice and put a 5 amp fuse in, got loads of time now as the cars in for a turbo install so it will be sitting at work for a month
the thing is they are only on when the door is open so the chances are even lower but will put one in to be safe..... but if it goes i can get a is300 so not all that bad for me... and in sweden the insurance company's are not crazy like in the uk.... you just tell them what you have in the car... take a few photo's for the insurance incase something does happen and that's it

5 amp will be way too high. You will need something rated in milliAmps, most likely, not amps. Put a multimeter across the wires when it's connected to see what it's drawing.
