Hi everyone,

I've looking at going back to college/uni to study in the Nuclear area.

Now the course which i've spotted is the Fd in Nuclear Decomissioning at Blackpool College. problem is they have not confirmed whether its going ahead or not yet and are going to get back to me.

The reason this interests me, is once completed the Fd, i can apply for the Nuclear Graduate scheme ran by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

Now I;ve just found out from the NDA that bursaries are available if you apply for the course i have in mind, i went to the website where you can apply, and it states you have to apply by March 2010???

How can I apply when my position on the course hasnt been confirmed yet?

Do i just apply for the bursary, and if they accept it, they will pay out once im on the course?

Sorry new to this bursary thing, as never applied before.

Sounds interesting, what made you choose that area?

Not really sure as to the bursary, but I'd ring up and find out from both sides what the deal is - with the bursary people whether you should wait to know for sure or just apply, and the course people as to when they will know for sure whether it is going ahead or not.

Its something which ive been interested in for a while, but never had a clue how to get into the area. Untill I mentioned the appeal to the area to a mate, who mentioned the graduate scheme.

Ive rang the bursary people and left a message asking to ring me back and sent an email to the course tutor asking him to confirm.

Westlakes College is offering the course what I want to do, however its 2.5hours drive away, 4 hour train journey.

But if blackpool dont offer it, then I am going to enquire with Westlakes and see how many days I have to come in, on full time and part time.

if its like one day or even half day for part time, then I may go for it, and drive there.

Apply to EDF if your interested in the nuclear industry mate,

they've just bought the company i work for british energy both for the existing nuclear site (like the one i work at) but also for the land we have for new build nuclear.

their starting schemes to take on people to become engineers and will pay for the training etc.

have a look on there website there should be something there.

though decommissioning could be good because heysham one nuclear power wont have much life left in it before it decommissions.

true, just checked EDF as stav suggessted, only thing which would have suited me was the apprentice scheme, but that is closed. the graduate schemes are also interesting but i got no qualifications to back myself up
