You don't need a cat, IF your emissions are low enough without one. Or if your engine is pre 1996, then you only have to pass the 1996 test requirements - mine does no problem!!

Davros Does any know this guy ?

Why is he doing this to his car beofre an MOT ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xAd0WVLvxE

Huh
I know him, I know him!

I actually failed my MOT earlier that morning due to an illegal modification to the engine. I was really nervous when I got there, but I had done a few things to keep the supercharger kit as discrete as possible. For example swapped my silicone hoses to black ones and I had my engine covers painted to make the supercharger stand out less.

Anyway, they failed me and I went home immediately, replaced the charger with a silicone hose (while recording it), went back for another MOT and passed it. A week later I took my girlfrend’s car in for its MOT and the guy who initially flunked my car recognized me and went “So it only takes you 18 minutes to remove your supercharger, huh?” Apparently he had seen the video I uploaded :tongue_smilie:

Lexusboy Patrick is from Sweden and they may have different laws over there..
His car is very nice you can see it in the club garage.
Exacly, our laws are very much against any form of car modifications. If you’ve got a car that’s newer than 1998 you aren’t allowed to even change rims or tyre dimension. The MOT guys are after all human and they usually don’t fail cars due to large rims but they can if they are cranky. However, retrofitted turbos or superchargers are pretty much impossible to get approval for if your car isn’t old enough. That’s why N/A supras are worthless in Sweden, they cannot pass an MOT with anything else than their stock N/A engine. Once an N/A always an N/A. If you’ve got a car with a factory fitted turbo you can do a lot more. There are lots of 6-900hp cars on our streets that pass their MOTs every year. Even though there are strict regulations when it comes to upgrading engine power there is no way to measure it without a dyno. A Supra TT is supposed to be boosted, but I believe the MOT papers don’t say how many turbos it’s supposed to have or how big they are.

Dan_Turism0 such a stunning car, if there's one car that deserves a big engine conversion it's patricks
I would love to do a 2JZ-GTE conversion, but if I did I would have to do two engine swaps every year Sad

2tongues Bigger pully, and internals for his car - keep it as "Lexus" as possible.
That sounds more like a plan that could work. The important thing is that the car has to be able to run without the supercharger and the emissions has to be more or less the same as now.

SHAHZ Nice work patrick, looks like youve done that a few times!!Confusedmoke:
I initially had quite a few problems with my supercharger, which lead to a lot of mounting/dismounting. A few MOTs more and I’ll be able to do it blindfolded Smile

steviewevie Quite a few countries have very strict rules about add-ons to your car, e.g. in some countries you need TUV approval for all the parts - and the TTE charger is TUV-approved. But then some countries don't even recognise TUV and need their own homologation, or even just say "you can't change anything" !
There might still be a possibility to get the TTE supercharger approved in Sweden with the TUV papers, but as it hasn’t been done before I believe it would be a really long process.

Are you talking about the redx, mate?

My emissions have never been a problem with my car. The problem is that it's absolutely illegal to turn an N/A engine into a boosted engine in Sweden Sad

Marsdendean What would happen if you got pulled ??
Hopefully the officer doesn't know about what's supposed to sit under the bonnet, but if he does you get a ticket and you're required to remove the upgrade and do another MOT.
