My New IS V8 Build
Awesome project mate :thumbup1: What kind of HP will this be kicking out then?
thanks mate. hmm it all depends really. the engine is capable of 450-500bhp and same for torque without modifying it. i have a xs power turbo which is not up to the job so hopefully around the 400 bhp mark for realibilty
right today fitted all the intercooler and radiator and turbo. the problem is that the turbo is touching the radiator so thats no good. heres a picture
now we thought of two things to do. one was to move the radiator forward to make room or re-route the turbo which is a lot more work because them all the pipes will have to be made again so we decided to move the radiator forward to make space.
between the intercooler and radiator there is space for the fan to sit. heres a pic
but moving the radiator forward the bonnet catch will be lost and only way around that is locking bonnet pins. now we can either tilt the radiator forward which will then sit in its original brackets or move it forward altogether and make new brackets for it. that yet still has to be decided. also the panel on top of the radiator will have to be removed and the side bits will need to be cut to move or tilt the radiator forward then a custom panel will be made. once the radiator is in place the fan will sit on the other side of the radiator instead of between the intercooler and the radiator.
heres a picture once the radiator has been tilted forward. just shows how much room it will make by doing this.
now there a lot of room to play about in and room to upgrade the turbo in future if i want
What about the stiffness of the car mate? You have cut a big chunk of metal. You will have a significant amount of power output so i think you must have a good body structure, otherwise all your car will twist. What about using a thinner radiator? Was that an option?
a thinner radiator will cost too much.
its all done now. the mechanic has used the metal bit that goes on top of the radiator and modified it to fit. will post a picture up later today and the once the modified metal bit was fitted it was as stong as before mate.
The turbo is still really close to the radiator. Is that going to be an issue for cooling ?
I am thinking the same as Steve, what have your mechanics said Asi?
