On the plus side, I got all the cogs/gearing questions right - good job too, logic fairly important in my job

A downwards piston will create a vacuum, in physics the vacuum does not suck in air, its the force of atmospheric pressure filling the void of negative pressure inside the cylinder.
But I can understand the confusion.

And do note the use of the term "cogs/gearing" (you even quoted it) which I believe demonstrates I am aware of the terminology in use.

*Technically* 'cogs' are the teeth. But there's also a bit of variance between British English and American English there as well.

What you got against the word "cog" anyway Oli? Seems an awfully odd thing to try and one-up me over, seeing as I used both the term I'm familiar with and the "correct" one... heh must do better with witty retorts, Oli!
