Well, The time’s come to sell my MX5.

I've had her advertised on the MX5 OWNERS club forum for a week now and only had 3 people show interest.......... Anyone see what I did wrong there? :whistling:

Anyway, I’ve owned her for a little over 4 years now and never intended to sell her, but with my back problems worsening I now have serious trouble getting in and out of her and subsequently have had to buy myself a more “Sensible” car. I can’t afford to tax and insure 2 cars for very long so my “Fun car” has to go.

She’s MOTed till 12/02/13 and the tax expires on 31/7/12 (The last MOT had no advisories). She's done a little under 58000 miles, and she lives with me just north of Bristol in the little town of Yate (BS37).

I built this car as a weekend toy and to finally go on the track day I’ve been promising myself I’d do for the last 10 years. Unfortunately my back problems (Among other health issues) have meant that this particular dream will now have to go unfulfilled.

I’ve always enjoyed modifying my cars and my MX5 hasn’t been overlooked in this respect during her time with me,

Here’s the tweaks I can think of at the minute……

Body,
Quad low level headlights, Lexus style rear lights, Wired in clear bumper side lights, Racing Beat type 1 boot spoiler, “Universal intercoolers” wide arch kit, Vented headlight lids, Eunos Roadster 3rd brake light boot lid, Green mohair soft top with glass rear window, Carbing Style Towing Eyes, Offset number plate bracket.

Running gear,
“Apex suspension” coilovers (Adjustable for height and damper rate), 16x7.5 TSW Hockenheim's (Powdercoated in black) with 195/45/16 Toyo’s on the front and 215/40/16 Toyo’s on the back, Goodridge stainless steel brake hoses, EBC Greenstuff pads all around, 50mm bolt on wheel spacers on all 4 hubs.

Performance upgrades (Not that much),
MX5parts single exit Stainless exhaust, Magnicor 8mm HT leads, Front strut brace.

Interior,
A CD/DVD/MP3/DVIX/USB/SD card/Bluetooth/Hands free/touch screen radio, JBL door speakers, Alpine amplifier, MOMO Race steering wheel, Aluminium gear knob, Ripspeed aluminium and leather Handbrake grip.

As my intention was to do some weekend track days with this car I built it out of a boggo basic spec UK model. This was because it didn't have electric windows, Power steering, aircon or any of the other options that add unnecessary extra weight.

She had a full service history when I got her, from that point I did all the servicing myself.

The bodywork has a few scars from the car park “Door wars” game, but it’s all still structurally sound. I cut out and replaced the front/bottom of the rear arches (The bit’s that cover the rear of the sill’s) before the last 2 MOT’s because they had started to bubble. At the time I used green Smoothrite to weather proof the repairs, The two tone look didn’t really bother me, but as I now have to consider what other people will think about it I decided to paint both entire sills with underseal to make her look a tad more presentable. There's a crease in the driver’s door (About 4” long) that would mostly pop out if you got behind the door card and give it a thump. Also I started spraying in some of the scratches she’s accumulated over the years, Only to find that Halfrauds mixed me up a batch of paint that dried slightly darker than the original (God bless their spotty little gimp boy staff members).

She’s always started first time every time and the hydraulic valve lifters always go quiet within a couple of seconds of starting her up (Like they should).

As I said, I really don’t want to sell my MX5, but as I almost cry in pain when I get in and out these days (And mechanically, the worst thing you can do to a ‘5 is not drive it), I’ve decided that it's best that she goes to someone else who will use her.

She'd make an ideal weekend track day car for someone (After all, that’s what I built her to do!!).

As always, Here’s some pictures to look at……
Lets start with an "Arty" shot I suppose,
[Image: DSF%20low.jpg]
(The dent in the drivers door really shows up in that one. ).

For once I haven't obscured the number plates in these shots. I thought I might as well leave them so if someone decided to do one of those "Text check" things they wouldn't have to PM me to get the reg.

(Tow point gonk is included for free !!!!! .)

These last two shots show how much wider the car is. It's about 4.5 inches in total (Who wouldn't be impressed by an extra 4.5 inches ?!?!?! ). It really hasn't got that much camber on the rear wheels, I think it might be something to do with how I was stood with the camera.

That's not flaky paint in the wheels, It's just muck from where I forgot to clean them (The wheels are still as good as when I got them back from the powder coaters).

Another shot of the dent in the drivers door. It looks worse in the picture than it is.

The dash. Pretty much to show the millage and that the oil + water gauges show normal....... As they always do (LOOK !!!!!! You'll also get HALF A TANK OF PETROL At todays bleedin' prices that really should count for something :tongue_smilie Smile !!!!!!

There's the stereo (The little thing you can see sticking out of a blanking plate below it is the mic for the hands free). I've still got the box and manuals for that so I'll dig them out if they're wanted.

By this point I think I was getting a little click happy with my camera.

I took a shed load of pictures so I think I might as well put a few more of them on here anyway.....

Lights go up......

Lights go down.....

And up. I love the low level light, It means that even with them up you can still clearly see the centre white lines and the curbs. I always felt that at night the standard lights obscured far to much of the road and gave me a sort of tunnel vision effect...... This means that these are a safety feature !!!

With regards to what she’s worth.

I’ve thought about this for a while now. I know that the dings and marks on the sides will put a lot of people off, But I also know how much someone who wants an interesting track day car would spend to upgrade an MX5 to a reasonable spec (I know because I've done it !!)…… This ones already got the fun bit's fitted!

This means you can skip the upgrading process completely and go straight to the celebratory drinks down the pub stage without even having to get your hands dirty...... 'cause I've already done the spanner work for you......... Your welcome.

So, Back to the vulgar subject of money. What I’m after is £1950.

As I said, I really don't want to sell her, But at the minute I can't see a day where I'm going to be able to drive her without hurting.

Feel free to PM me any Sensible offers, But please be aware that as I feel a little sensitive about having to sell my baby, sending "Non sensible" offers may result in me hunting you down and doing things to you of a questionable (And possibly proctological) nature with a large aubergine*.

If you have any more questions about my '5, please feel free to PM me with them to.

Scotty B.
