Apparently insurers changed the way they group catorgories from 1st january and now go up to up to group 50? how does that affect us in real life terms what group would they reclassify for example my is300 and as im just about to get my 5 years no claims i was hoping for a decrease in price this year not for it to go up! grrr if it does go up in price.

Insurers always make sure premiums increase year on year, no matter what you do !

Best advice is to shop around as much as possible.

i was more trying to find out the changes that they have made to reclassifying group levels, for example what would a is200, a fiesta or other cars be? say your car is in group 16 what would the new gruop number be and how do they work it out?

PM Guy @Adrian Flux i sure he can explaine any new group levels?
As a club sponsor will in courage everyone on the forum to give Adrian Flux a chance with your insurance renewals.
Adrian Flux are specialist in Japanese car insurances with or without any Mods added to our vehicle, and they offer great rates.
Don't forget to tell them that you want a quote with a discount as a club member this can save you as much as 10-20% off your insurance.:thumbup1:

I doubt there will be any real change, I believe it's just formalising something that's always been done by insurance companies internally anyway. I doubt there's a huge impact at the bottom end of the scale anyway, it's the top that was the problem as there are tons of cars all rated as group 20 but with wildly differing insurance premiums.

As an example an Aston Martin and a Ferrari are both group 20 on the old scale, but get a quote for them and the aston will be a hell of a lot cheaper to insure - on the new scale I'd imagine those two cars would have different groups which will make the group number actually useful unlike what it is at the moment.

Hiya,

Yes the ABI has changed it to 50 groups. You will probably find it won't have a massive impact, however some people might be a bit better of and then again some might be worst off just depends on each individual vehicle and scheme.

Hope this helps,
Dan

I found that if you go here, you can enter a vehicle make over on the right, do a search, and it will show you both the new groups (1-50) and the old ones (1-20).

For instance, an IS200 Sport goes from old group 13 to new group 27, and an IS300 from 15 to 31.
