Hey every one,

I've got a bit of a problem with my car, and i need a quick temp fix, until Monday/Tuesday

For some reason (not sure why) i have some pink halfords radiator coolant. is there any harm in using this stuff as oppose to Toyota's pink coolant ?

Also what is the difference, if any ?

Thanks in advance !

Hmmm...so if it's only price and packaging, why would it cause damage ?

Also, just another question i have, does any know the size of the radiator for the IS ?

It's a little too dark for me to check now, but does any now know if this is the right radiator for our cars ?

Thanks !

be careful i think theres two size radiators for the IS one thinner than the other.

though i dont think it matters if you fit a thinner one to a standard car

Ah cheers Stav !

Don't duppose you know off the top of your head what the size of the radiator is ?

Do you also happen to know if it is hard to change a radiator ?

I've not had a look yet...but i will do soon. But do you know if there is some kind of walk through guide for it ?

For the coolant, I don't know if the pink Halford stuff is similar to the pink Toyota stuff or not, e.g. if the colour is significant. But you do need the right sort of coolant, e.g. Toyota also do some green coolant and you mustn't use that in the IS200. Toyota/Lexus will have their own coolant in stock, i.e. for their own servicing.

Guide to removing and reinstalling the radiator part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4.

Steve, you are Legendary !!!

Thank you. That dosen't look too hard to do actually, i think that could be my next project this week

Also what is the difference with the pink and green coolants ?

Why shouldn't you use the green one in the IS ? And do you think the Halfords pink is just as bad, and should avoid ?

The green coolant is for a different type of Toyota engine, the ones built in this country I think. The red and pink Toyota ones are the ones for the IS engine. You could end up with corrosion if you don't use the right sort of coolant (not saying it *has* to be Toyota stuff, just the right type).

Davros,

The oem radiator core thickness is 26mm, patterned radiator core thickness (off ebay, radiator specialists etc) have a core thickness of 16mm.

When I replaced my leaking oem radiator I fitted a patterned radiator (16mm) off ebay for £130. A oem one from Lexus is about £250 (and they want your old one back). I've had my 16mm thick radiator fitted since 2007 and I have done 40,000 miles on it without any problems.

Hope this info helps.

Some of the OEM radiators are 16mm too, as well as the 27mm ones.
