Thought I'd keep this out of the F1 thread as it's not really related to this season - but just wondered what thoughts were on the talk of engine changes.

It's all speculation but the common theme seems to be that we're moving towards 1.5 ltr 4 cylinder engines which totally confuses me - is that really what should be powering the pinnacle of motorsport?

The problems I see is that firstly that just sounds lame although I realise that they'll still obviously get massive power out of it (with twin turbos) but it still just doesn't evoke excitement.

Secondly I think this is the wrong direction - reducing power (in theory) will increase reliance on aero which doesn't promote overtaking. They should be going the other way by giving the cars too much power to handle so we really see which drivers can really grab their cars by the scruff of the neck and make them go quick!

I thought the Tubby days were a thing of the past?

Whats F2 going to be 1L single turbo???. Formula Ford 1L no turbo?????? Pathetic ideas coming from a governing body who just "Don't get it".

looks like le-mans or likes of gt series racing with v12's v10's the proper cars are now becoming the real F1, rather than the computer guided motors they use today, even BTCC is not the same since they went all eco.

2tongues I thought the Tubby days were a thing of the past?

Not for much longer, although a revival of the "old turbo days" might actually be quite fun! :w00t:

The thing is they will still be able to extract huge amounts of power out of a 1.5ltr turbo engine. The idea is to bring the size of the engines down in an attempt to be seen as more eco.

Was Supercharged Racing Green IS200 Sport. Now APR Stage 1 Seat Leon Cupra (220 Bhp).

I suppose MR2's can extract 800BHP from 2L - given enough money, so F1 engineers will get at least 800 if not more. The cars will be lighter etc....

Turbos are something that more road car manufacturers are adopting now though, e.g. BMW. Rightly or wrongly, F1 also has to look like it's taking environmental issues seriously and not just saying "sod you, we're going to burn as much fuel as possible !".

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

Think the F1 should be taken back to its roots, too many rules and regs now, i watched the 1st race and that was so boring i've not watched it since! there's no more excitement, you may as well go and sit by the M6 as there's more going on

Only watch the WRC now, at least that still has some mad drivers taking part and always good to see them jumping through trees and the spectators :thumbup1:

Lexus IS200 Sport Navigator (Now being stripped again)
