BIG BIG clouds of blue smoke?
BIG BIG clouds of blue smoke?
Hi Guys,
Since i got back off holiday i drove the car about 100 miles and nothing seemed amiss
then i filled up and upon leaving the petrol station there was plumes and plumes of blue/grey smoke
then it disappeared so thought nothing of it....
Then i filled up again yesterday and the same happened again, but with more smoke??
It only seems to be happening when i fill up which is odd (two different stations)
but wondering if it could be something more sinister?
Cheers
That seem strange if it only happens when you fill up.
Is your engine burning oil?
Have you filled up the oil level to high?
Have you tried a engine combustion test?
The engine is struggling for some reason and i am hoping its not the rings but that normally only happens if the car been sitting for months rather than weeks
Just a small drop of oil leaking into the cylinder can produce blue smoke out the exhaust
doesnt appear to be drinking oil, but will check at lunch
havent filled the oil up for a while as last time i did it i got it brimmimng by accident
wouldnt know how to do a combustion test, nor were to get the tools from
it doesnt seem to be struggling, havent noticed a drop in power (if anything it feels more lively than usual)
Sounds like your oil levels are far to high, this would be a good starting place.
Check your oil when the oil is warm and on a flat road watch you don't burn your self.
Pull out your dip stick and wipe then insert the dip stick and check clean the dip stick and check again.
The level needs to be between the too markers of low and high, better to have it closer to high.
just checked the oil, engine is still relatively warm, but not warm enough to invoke any hissing when i removd the oil cap
checked 4 times and everytime the dip stick indicated it being an inch over the "high level" indicator
although im not sure on the accuracy as the stick bends when going in so not sure if the oil has coated the inside of the measuring tube causing a dodgy reading?
How high is the mileage on your car?
So where you find your self is your put to much oil into your car and its burning off the excess.
Or you have a leak that either gaskets or rings letting oil into the cylinder.
Is blue smoke noticable any other time other than when refueling ietart up?
deffo sounds like overfill, was it recently serviced/oil topped up??
72k on the clock
oil was topped up 2 months ago, maybe more..... when i topped it up it went from being just above minimum to just below maximum
odd that its only started happening recently, surely it would of happened almost immediately after top-up,
Ive filled with diesel atleast 12-14 times since then?
do these burn a lot of oil then?? in the 7/8 years of owning my car ive never once needed to top up the oil......although it could be different with a diesel???
