changing 1G-fe internals affects supercharger?
changing 1G-fe internals affects supercharger?
Ok i'm getting ready to start the first phase of my upgrade which is to get the max amount of power from the charger.
i'm planning changing the conrods to the ones from the 1g-gte and using the injectors from that engine as well. also Upgrading the pulley on the water pump and swapping the tte silver box for a greddy ultimate. I think i read somewhere that i don't need to use the pistons from the gte, the fe is version is strong enough?. the upgraded pulley is supposed to make approx 7 psi
so my questions, has anybody tried this (did a search on both forums and found nothing, everybody went straight to turbo) does this change my compression ratio and will the stock charger boost still be suitable with the new setup? i plan to run the stock pulley for a little while just to observe how the engine behaves with the gte rods and injector changes
what do u guys think?
If you wait a while i am planning to do this upgrade on my car. I am working currently 7psi with oem pistons and rods and bigger pulley. We will see how safe it is. I know already some turbo versions that work/worked around 280-300bhp and had not any problems. If the program is good then you will not have problems.
i used the injectors from the 1g gte and i can tell you that you will need to dremil out a small amount from the head to make them fit. they will go and works ok for me running 250 just now. the thing is if your going to change the rods then you should use the pistons to. this is what i will be doing in the new year
@ jay thanks for the info, i thought the injectors would have been just plug and play, do u have pics of the mod? and is there any change in the compression ratio if i use the pistons? (from 10:1 in the FE to 8.5:1 in the GTE?)
@ dimis how long have u been running at 7psi? is there a noticeable performance increase and do u have dyno graphs for the upgrade?
no mate i have no pics. the injectors are a bit bigger so you have to do each one and then fit them one by one. it was not me it eas my mapping guy that did them for me.and not sure on the last question
the one thing i forgot to say was that after you have made these fit the engine will take cheaper and bigger injectors from the supra as the head will be the right size. there are bigger injectors taht fit straight on without a custom job. i think they were from a usa spec mr2 or celica but you will need to read through the post for the right info.
question is if the engine can take 300+ bhp why are you going to change the rods? i'm and others are running high bhp without problems. how much are you going to get from the compressor
well i've only heard/read of one 1g-fe that has withstood high boost on stock internals. everybody else upgraded the internals. if it can take it, why has only that one seen success? but if it is so, maybe i won't bother cause i'm not aiming for huge numbers just enough to have fun and still keep it a comfortable daily driver (looking for 200-250 at the wheels)
see me and rabster both have 1gfe internals and run 250+ without a problem. i'm going up to 320 soon on standard 1gfe internals then i will change them out to hit 400,my turbo is good for more but i will need to change ecu and injectors for that. i think you will find that bad mapping was to blame for people saying there internals failed. you need to do it right.
