Some interesting facts.

Iridium is 8 times harder than platinum which gives the plugs such a long life.
Production of iridium plugs is complex due to the high melting point of the metal and expensive so that is why they cost more.
Iridium is a very rare metal and the production for a whole year is only around 3 tons.
Fortunately they should be good for around 100,000 miles.
