Recent trip to bodyshop
As per my other thread my car was recently in the bodyshop, had a chance to give the car a look over this morning and seems there is some good and bad news.
Good news:
1. Paintwork looks pretty good, need to give the car a wash to get properly up close but overall it looks great.
2. From the residue on the car and the fact it looks a LOT better than it did before, I think they've mopped the whole car which was a nice surprise
3. They've replaced the missing door moulding free of charge again a nice surprise (although I have no need for the brand new one I have sitting in my cupboard any more!)
Bad news:
1. Bonnet doesn't seem to line up correctly on the driver's side, seems a lot closer to the headlight and bumper than it used to be, had a quick chat to them on the phone this morning and hopefully it'll be something they can fix (not completely obvious from the pics, looks worse in the flesh)
(Please ignore the finger on the lens :tongue_smilie
2. Finally on to the worst part of all - at first was annoyed that I didn't discover this before calling them but now actually think it is better to get as much info as I can before speaking to them.
When I opened the bonnet I found this
I am almost 100% sure that that was not there before the car went in, but then the only time I have opened the bonnet before that was when I had this corrosion first inspected and I'm pretty sure this wasn't there (and if it had been there I'm sure one of us would have noticed)
My question is, could that much damage have been caused without creating serious damage to the front bumper? I've noticed there some cracking on the bumper, but that's been there for a while and is under the surface so looks like some kind soul has bumped into it while parking. Other than that the paint on the bumper looks fine (as you can see in the pic above)
It looks like that kind of damage would require a substantial impact though wouldn't it?
Maybe someone did crash into your car Parthi, but they just replaced the front bumper etc?
That's perfect Jomo, thanks for that. Exactly what I was thinking, for that damage to have been caused, surely the bumper would have been in a bad way as well. This has to have happened while the bumper was off, and I'm thinking the bonnet must have been off also as otherwise the catch would probably have some damage too.
The other thing that makes it look fresh is that you can see there is corrosion on that panel, but the impact point where the paint is split all looks clean so it has to have happened quite recently.
@Oli: I'm pretty sure that it's the same bumper as the mild cracking in the paint all looks the same - and it would be weird if they went to the expense of painting and fitting a new bumper and then not also repair the damage behind it!
I would go on the attack mate and get into the place and demand the repair or your report it to Lexus and your solicitor.
Had you had this damage before then surely the dealer would not of carried out the warranty as they would of said the damaged was caused by impact damage.
Well that would explain why the bonnet it so out of line wouldn't it?
I'm thinking along the same lines as you Parthiban, must have been bumped with the bonnet and bumper off the car to have not damaged either of them.
However...if it was bumped into/hit by anything with a flat surface I'd have expected to see damage to the release lever i.e. signs that it was bent and then re-straightened (crack in paint, slight curve to the arm)
But because the lever looks undamaged, I'm wondering if maybe its been driven into a post of some sort? As that would still be enough to dent the catch in, but not damage any of the surrounding paint.
Good point, just had a good nose around the engine bay and there really is no sign of an impact, the bonnet lock mechanism doesn't look like anything has hit it, nor does the crash bar (well what I can see of it) or anything else?
This is really bizarre, won't be too aggressive to begin with as they may agree to fix it straight away (like when the car got scratched in their care a while back).......
Looking on the paperwork from Lexus they've actually made a note on the inspection sheet that the slam panel is damaged, so that would mean it happened before it went to Lexus (the car went into the bodyshop first so that makes sense)
