I know it's so frustrating with people like this on the road. I'm trying to teach people the safeist way to drive and we whitness this all day. The problem we have is there are millions of motorists out there who think they are all experts in this field. A reluctance to learn, change and adapt driving to safer techniques will fall on deaf ears and untill there is compulsary driver training for everybody, and the police having the means to be able to hold these people accountable for their shocking, if not ****** dangerous driving, then we will still continue to whitness this. Also a misplaced confidence by a mojority of motorists, thinking they are substantially better than they are, these are the real killers out there.

Best thing to do, in my opinion, is to lead by example. Drive the best you can to your highest ability and other motorists will tend to do the same. Ignore all the, and I use this word in jest, experts, and things just might get better. Anticipate the worst which could happen in every situation and how you would deal with it.

I must sound like a boor when it comes to driving but I just want to keep us all safe out there.

Marsdendean ^^ You boor!

Only joking. I always leave plenty of room nowadays, because some people just can't drive!

Some peeple, you mean most of them.

Your right about leaving plenty of room. I get asked on most driving lessons by my pupils "Why is that car in front slowing down as there's nothing infront of them?". My usuall reply is "I have no idea. Don't invest any thought as to why these motorists are doing what they are doing, try and think how you are going to deal with them instead.".

Funny how people act on the road, I don't know them therefore they are irrelevant to me, I don't get involved, just get on with my journey and let them crash and burn. If I have to get involved then thats a different storyConfusedmoke:

Understand what you're all saying but don't approve of blocking people trying to overtake - there's no point as it's possible as it could end quite badly. Probably my old age, but unless I'm willing to race off much faster than him, it's better to just let them go and you cruise along in peace Smile

think best way to stop tailgates is but your rear fog on and i always slow down to a sensable speed.

Not to annoy them but i would rather have someone crash into rear of me at 20 mph othen 40.

if possible normally just move over.

BHP, TORQUE, UNDER STEER, OVERSTEER FOR DUMMYS
BHP- how fast you hit the wall, TORQUE- how far you push the wall
OVER STEER- Dont see the wall, UNDER STEER- You do see it

lol id rather not get crashed into at all

i dont mind tailgaiters to be honest, only because im a sod for doing it so cant be hypocritical

i only tend to tailgate those who use the outside lanes as their personal lanes whilst not overtaking anyone, and even then its done with left foot covering the brake

but if theres a queue of traffic i dont see the point in it, i wont make much progress

I had one guy on sunday morning on the M6 sat in the outside lane with practically nothing else on the road and as i approache dhim i flashed to indicate i wanted to come through, and he slowed down???????????

i pulled into middle lane as i didnt want to brake hard as a guy in a bimma was following me, he followed me into the middle lane and we both stopped accelerating and coasted past him???

i didnt actually mean to under-take him, i just didnt want to brake so thought i would coast in middle lane

weird people on the roads nowadays

From my experience, people just don't look in their rear view mirrors anymore, if the roads clear I tend to drive as far left anyway, usually as the roads clearer and it's far less stressful Smile

good idea,

depends how the police view it though if you were to "undertake" somebody,

if your doing 70mph and it happens then you cant be at fault, but crusing at 80mph and even if your on the inside lane i think you may still get done possibly?

Quote, In this instance no one technically has priority over the other.
Maybe incorrect as the lorry has to change his intended lane and will need to give priority to the lane that has no obstruction. (as the lorry drivers intention was to change road position, hence his indication)
The driver of the car in the unobstructed lane has priority.

With what I was saying above, I'm technically not undertaking, I'm driving on the left, and only overtaking whenever necessary by moving into the middle lane. It's irrelevant what's going on in the right lane Smile

Proper undertaking is obviously against the rules, but so is keeping right when no overtaking. I'm sure they'd come down harder on undertaking though, so best hope that none of us ever have to find out!
