Slightly random question, but what does building a bespoke gaming machine like this give you over and above what you get with a PS3 or similar?

right im back with a new basket here goes:

CPU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc...=CP-301-IN

Motherboard: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc...=MB-208-GI

Memory: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc...=MY-151-OC

HD: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc...=HD-168-SE

Case: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc...=CA-155-CM

PSU:http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc...23&subcat=

these are the main details, other stuff are irellevant anywhere, stuff like wirless, dvd-rom, and others

only thing is that set up just for those parts get me towards 800 quid, which is kinda over budget, so might tone it down if possible, but is that the sort of way i should go?

if i go for dual channel ram, i rather go for lga775 motherboard is this right? and forget about ddr3

if i go for 775 motherboard, then what sort of cpu shoudl i be looking at? with ddr2 ram

also quick question many of the GTX models dont come with HDMI output, I would be looking at hooking the ssytem up to my 1080 42inch TV with only had hdmi input not DVI or VGA. what solution is there out there to get round this, maybe an adaptor for VGA to HDMI?

good question, with the amount of money im spending on this pc, i could buy 2 ps3's but ps3's would cost alot in future on games, if you know what i mean lol

plus with a computer hooked up to the tv, i can use it to watch movies and programmes instead of relying on my wireless adaptor, which then i sell it as wont be needed

plus i enjoy building a computer and seeing it working afterwards !

Fair enough, just wanted to know whether there was an actual benefit - so it is just more of an "if you're a hardcore gamer" type scenario then.

The PS3 acts as a wireless media server though, so that would cover that aspect if it were an issue Smile

looks good, one thing to note is that OEM cpu's don't come with a thermal Heatsinc for the cpu so you will need to purchase one or purchase the retail version of this chip?
Also as the p55 platform doesn't support tri-chan ram you would be better off getting the following : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc...ubcat=1516

Also whats your budget and what do you require? e.g is the budget for just the pc unit itself or does the budget need to include windows/mouse/keyboard/monitor also? Let me know and i'll whip up a spec for you Smile

also require memory card reader, and a few extra fans aswell depending on the case, all speed controlable
