The police took a statement last night, before I had to go to hospital to get some stitches in my hand. What happened was unbelievable and it hasn't really set in yet.

I was in Nottingham yesterday when at 3.30pm I got a phonecall about my car for sale from a young guy (about 26) asking if he could see my car that night. He said his name was Jay and asked all the usual questions, but in particular was very concerned about how the car drove. I answered all the questions and I said I was in nottingham and wouldn't be back until 9pm. He was insistent that he wouldn't be able to see the car this weekend if I couldn't show it to him earlier. So I stopped working, and drove back asap. We arranged to meet at 7pm and he said he'd get a lift over to me.

Two guys arrived at 7 exactly. I was messing about with something on the car when they walked over. I don't know why I didn't think more about it at the time, but they said they arrived in a taxi. Obviously this should have set alarm bells ringing but it didn't. The guy I spoke to on the phone introduced himself as Terry. I assumed Jay must have been a nickname so didn't question it. I can't remember his friend's name. But they're obviously fake names anyway.

The car was unlocked and they asked to look around etc. They commented how nice it was, how nice the paint was, how nice the wheels were etc. The asked to look under the bonnet so I opened it up for them. They asked me to start it up, which I did. Everyone was outside the car and the bonnet was up so I didn't think too much of it. Terry was then telling me how he'd sold his pulsar to fund the car and asked me how it compared to one etc.

This is where I did something very, very stupid. Terry was talking to me in front of the car with the bonnet up. The friend asked if he could sit in the car. I felt uneasy about this as it was running, but I didn't want to be accused of being racist for not trusting him. So I said yes, but continued to stand in front of the car talking to Terry. I heard the dirver's door shut and became very concerned. Terry then ran to the passenger door and shut it. I realised I was being robbed.

Please bare in mind that the bonnet was still up and I was stood in front of the car. The driver revved the engine and launched the car at me. I jumped out the way but they hit me on the leg and I cut my fingers open on the bonnet.

They nailed it down the road flat in 1st 2nd and 3rd with the bonnet up!!! As I was running after it I saw the bonnet flexing backwards. I could hear the car stop at the bottom of my road, and then accelerate again, so they must have stopped to shut the bonnet. I rang the police whilst running back to get the keys for my other car. I chased after them but couldn't see them.

Details of the guys:

Both seemed to have London/Essex accents, but not too common.
Both were Pakistani (or similar race)

Terry: 6' 2" and a but fat and had stubble
Friend: 5' 6" and skinny with a goatee beard.

This is the number they called from: 07415189660

Engine bay
by AaronR33, 02-06-2019, 06:36 AM
So to go along with the various other areas of the car the previous owner never bothered looking after my engine bay is absolutely filthy. Can anyone recommend any techniques or products for getting all the usually grease and **** off? I don't have any products or money to buy any with so if there's soon good household alternatives I'd love to hear about them!

Thanks,
Aaron

Samsung Galaxy SII
by parthiban, 01-06-2019, 09:40 AM
Finally got one of these on upgrade last week so thought I'd offer up my initial thoughts. Overall there are a lot of similarities to the Galaxy S it replaces, but it's just like everything has been improved.

Biggest surprise to me is the fact that despite the larger screen (4.3" vs. 4") it's barely any bigger than the S, and is actually quite a chunk thinner and lighter too.

To be honest the Galaxy S performs very well, but this just feels so much smoother thanks to the dual core processor, and touchwiz has definitely been improved, although I'm not sure I'll be sticking with it and will probably swap to launcher pro again. There's a smoothness and reliability that hasn't always been there with android in the past, it now feels really complete.

Another surprise is the magic they've worked with the battery, despite the extra power the battery lasts a lot longer - even with pretty heavy use it is easily lasting a day, which wasn't always the case with the S.

Not really sure what else to add at this stage as I think the phones are quite similar, anyone with any questions feel free to ask! It amazes me to see where android has come from to where it is now, and to me this is now head and shoulders over the iPhone - just my opinion but the fact that engadget agrees (who are heavily apple biased) is about all the proof you need.

Really looking forward to what the iPhone 5 will bring as it will need to be a significant step to catch up..........

Navteq Streetview
by parthiban, 01-06-2019, 09:14 AM
Is Navteq doing their own Google Streetview equivalent? Saw a car driving around this morning but unlike the google cars with just a camera on top it had some bizarre spinning contraption!

Wonder what other interesting features that might bring Smile

Install/Audio setup pics - what have you got?
by bounty`, 01-06-2019, 06:14 AM
Im currently trying to decide on what I want to do audio wise with my IS200.

I've upgraded the standard headunit to a Kenwood DDX4028BT Double din unit with an amp bypass cable.

I am thinking that I'll probably upgrade the fronts to some 17cm component speakers with tweeters and crossovers. Possibly some smaller - 13cm? components in the rear again possibly with tweeters and crossovers. Then in the boot I am thinking of a single or twin 10" subs, and then obviously amps.

I use my boot alot so I will either make a box/boxes to go in the sidewalls of the boot to maximise space, or possibly a box to sit in the cavity inside the spare wheel (Id leave the wheel in there and make the box easily removable).

Just after some inspiration really....so lets see what youve got?

Also any details of what audio gear youre running and how you find them etc would be helpful.

(I know this sort of thing has been covered alot, but mainly for specific requests, I thought we could build up a thread so people can have a browse through for ideas etc as well as getting advice on what gear to run)
