Hi All,
Recently became an outlaw and need some help. I own a Lexus IS200 Sport 02 plate. Fitted a new aftermarket double din useing the amp bypass lead. All works well but lost power to my pop up sat nav. I went for advise to an auto electrician but he seemed to shy away as soon as i mentioned it was an IS200, he said he had problems once before and never used the bypass lead but used a standard toyota ISO,he also mentioned a 3rd plug with 3 wires at the back of the factory double din and said he singled out one of those wires and connected a wire with an in-line bulb which swithed the sat nav on but he said that you had to have the wire with the bulb in an accessible place incase of having to change the bulb. To be honest, this method sounds a bit risky to me. So i thought i would seek further advice from outlaw. I do have wiring diagrams for the sat nav and double din. I just need someone to kindly simplify a way round this so that i can still use my sat nav aswell as my new aftermarket Double Din. I am myself a motor mechanic. Just need to know the best way round this and what colour wires connect/disconnect or tap into. Someone must of come accross this problem. Much Appreciated Rob
Hi all,
Recently joined outlaw because i love jap cars and have owned more than a few over the years. Used to be an mr2 mk2 tubs fanatic and attend shows and stuff spending too much money on mods etc. I am now on my 3rd baby Lexus is200 sport as i love them so much. My present IS is pretty bog standard at the minute but i intend to do some sensible mods. I have just fitted a new double din pioneer useing the amp bypass lead from sticky's great thread but i have lost power to my pop up sat nav so i am going to have to get some help from the ice section.
I am a mature mechanic by trade so maybe i can offer some contributions if i can find time as i work long hours 6 days. I miss going on meets and miss car shows too. I am a bit of a novice at useing forums but as soon as i get to grips with it i will upload a pic of my baby lexus. I must say that being a mechanic i have not had to do much in repairs to the IS200 because they are pretty bullit proof apart from those notorious jap calliper slides always seizing if you don't keep on top of them. I actually replaced a clutch at home on the floor last year, almost killed me getting that bell housing up that tight tunnel, had to drop the exhaust manifold back to give me just enough space. People get caught out when removing the propshaft forgetting to put those vital mounting spacers back. Anyway enough of me rambling on, I need to get on the ice section for some help. Nice to feel at home with outlaw.
Rob:biggrin:

I recently got the 2011/2012 sat nav updates for my car stereo which is a Kenwood double din touchscreen unit with built in Garmin satnav. In order to take the new maps it needed some software updates first. I thought I'd write it out here because I know some other members have similar stereos!
The stereo and the satnav are internally 2 separate units. So they both have software that needs updating. You must update the stereo first, then the satnav.
Step 1: Update Stereo
Get the software update from Kenwood. These are in a few different places depending on how old your stereo is.
http://www.kenwood.com/usb/info_program_en.html for units released in 2007 (eg mine, DNX-7200)
http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/mm/firmware/2008/eng.html for units released in 2008
http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/mm/firmware/index.html for units released in 2009 (eg DNX-9240BT)
http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/mm/firmware...index.html for units released in 2010
http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/mm/firmware...a/eng.html for units released in 2011
Download the .zip file with the latest software for your stereo. For a DNX-9240BT this would be http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/mm/firmware...r1.9.0.zip
Check your current version of the software. On the stereo, go into the Settings menu (Spanner Icon), then Information, then Software. If the version is less than 1.0.9 then you need to update.
Now, some stereos update from USB and some from CD. The DNX-7200 updates from USB for example, where the DNX-9240BT will only update from CD. This is how to do the CD update:
Extract the contents of the .zip file you downloaded and burn the files onto a CD. They should be in the root of the CD, not inside a subfolder, and there shouldn't be anything else on the CD.
START THE CAR AND KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING.
Put the CD you've just burnt into the stereo. Select the 'StandBy' source - pausing what you're listening to is not enough, it must be on stand by.
Go back to Settings -> Information -> Software. There will now be an Update button - press it. The update takes about 25 minutes and you should have the engine on the whole time.
At the end of the software update your stereo will restart. Go bak into Settings -> Information -> Software and make sure it now shows the new version of the software.

....at installing new injectors on a 2JZ-GE engine that is!!
Last night I bit the bullet and decided that I'd have a crack at installing a new set of 440cc injectors on the IS. I'd seen Phil01 do it previously so I had a good idea of what to do, although I wasn't exactly taking notes.
Started off by removing the intake pipe and the throttle body. The TB has two coolant pipes running to/from it, so I used some hose pinchers to stop coolant leaking out before removing them.
With the TB off I gave it a good clean inside with some MAF cleaner. It was absolutely filthy with tons of gunk around the throttle plate. To be honest I'm surprised it even opened properly!
Then I moved onto the "Y" part of the intake which had some really annoying vacuum hoses attached to it that needed really small hands to get in underneath and release before the pipe could be moved at all.
The Y part of the intake is where the pipe from the PCV goes, and oil vapour from the crank case is transferred for burning by the engine. After seeing the state of this pipe (tonnes of gunked up oil) I know that I definitely need an oil catch can, and I'd recommend one to anyone as all this oily gunk is clogging your pipes!
Now that I could get access to the fuel rail I had to remove the fuel dampener which is like a little UFO thing that sits on top of the fuel pipe. it was a biatch to get off, which Phil01 did say that it would be!
Once that was out of the way I could actually get the fuel rail off. So I put some rags below the injectors and pulled the fuel rail away, watching as my precious vpower wasted away.
Now it was just a case of installing the new injectors and putting it all together again. Here's what the engine looked like mid-swap:
![[Image: l_inj3.jpg]](http://i2.sqi.sh/s_1/91l/l_inj3.jpg)
With everything back together again I got the Mrs to crank the car a few times while I checked for leaks. All seemed good so after plucking up the courage, I went and started the car for the first time with its new injectors.
First of all it idled a bit rough, but it soon picked up and was running nice and smooth. After a second stop and start of the car, it was actually starting better than it ever had before!!
Took it out for a quick drive, and WOW. The stock injectors must have seriously been limiting power, as the car just flies. I'll get some vids at the weekend, but it's like driving a totally different car, and I definitely need some time to get used to it as it gets to 60 a lot quicker than it stops from it now lol.
Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone on here can help with arranging the shipping or collection of a large item from the US?
I need to arrange the shipping of a item that is
77"x21"x18" and weighs around 14lbs.
Seller can't arrange shipping but I am welcome to arrange my own.
Tried Parcel2go etc and DHL/Fedex and either the prices are ridiculous or the dimensions are too big!
Any ideas???
Thanks
Anees

Hi all,
My involvement with cars goes beyond just my Corolla, I have to be the home mechanic for other cars too and if I remember correctly, the last 5 cars that my dad has purchased, were purchased through my directions.
Our second to latest addition to the family is his R32 GTST Skyline.
We picked her up for £3995 and being a 2008 Japanese import you'd expect her to be in a bit of a state.. you'd be wrong

She does have a little bit of work that needs to be done, the whole interior is ****, honestly she needs to be totally retrimmed which has been scheduled for the coming years but not any time soon.
The Side-Skirts and Spoiler need a repaint, and the N/S Rear Quarter needs mop and polishing because the previous shop seems to have sprayed it and just rolled it out without a good polish :Shooting:
That aside, she is one very neat car, and it will cost £1000 to have her brought back up to a factory finish including having a front wing resprayed due to micro blisters, the rear polished and the skirts and spoiler sprayed again. Not half bad.
As for mods she has:
*Meister R Fully Adjustable Coilovers
*ROTA Cup Alloys
*Toyo T1R Tyres
*HKS SSQV Blow-Off Valve
*HKS Full Titanium System from Turbo back
*Turbo Timer
Other than that she is unmolested but such good fun!
I will keep you updated with this one, my first small task is to replace the Passenger Front Belt Spacer as the old one was lost by the previous owner which leaves it working as a choke not a seat belt.
