Retro Toyota Meet @ Ace Cafe, Apr 2011
by toxo, 13-03-2019, 10:02 AM
Went to this meet, organised by the ae86 owners. The brief was any Toyota you like, as long as it was built prior to 1990. Obviously that counts me out but there were a few exceptions made Wink

A Toyota Crown, MK2 Celica and a 340bhp HKS AE86!

WHo has a turbo timer and how does it work
by Rabster, 13-03-2019, 06:14 AM
OK so here is the thing i have just fitted a turbo timer to my car as most of you know my car is far from standard.

I have a aftermarket alarm so a standard adaptor loom just wont work

so i have made my own following the principals of it fitting
this is how i have fitted mine

Locate aftermarket alarms IGN wire (either Cut or unsolder from car loom)

take the Ignition output from the New turbo timer and Wire to pin 86 on a relay

install a diode between 86 to 87a with band towards 86.

Take the alarm wire and connect to 87a.

12volt + constant supply, fused at 30amps to 87.

Ground (earth) to 85.

factory wire connected to 30.

now with all the above done it works if i take keys out the ignition it starts counting down and after the alloted time it will turn the ignition off.

however i thought the idea of a turbo timer is you could get out the car with it still running and lock it and walk away and after the allotted time it would turn off ?

All you others with turbo timers how does yours work ?

Well as the title says i have started to re-wire the lexus, i have started inside the car tidying up all the aftermarket items i ahve installed along with the CAR pc full configuration

Stage one was to remove the dash to show me the scope of the challenge ahead of me....

Stage two was to remove as much wiring that i could carefully to allow it to be re-installed

No pics of this stage as there wasn't much that i could just chop out lol

Stage 3 Start the the rewire...

New DVLA Insurance Law
by JeffMcC, 11-03-2019, 09:06 AM
Just had my tax reminder for my bike and with it came the New Motor Insurance Law from the Govenment. What a load of s**t they have come up with now. Although I agree with vehicles with No Tax being put on a SORN and not being allowed on the road, I think its a bit much that if you are not using your Car/ Bike and have no insurance they can now come and Fine/ Clamp or Remove your vehicle and even Dispose of it and be fined a maximum of £1000 by the Courts because you now have to SORN your vehicle if you have NO insurance. As I have previously been employed as a Removal Driver for Untaxed Vehicles being on the road, they are now going to fine you a fixed penalty of £100 for no insurance even though your vehicle is not being used on the road. So does this New Law mean that if your vehicle is on [U]YOUR[U] Drive they can remove it because you havent put it on a SORN????
Although I am all for penalising those people with no insurance, but wouldn't be more appropriate to look at why they have no insurance? If they can't afford the insurance how will they be able to pay the fine?? What happens if you are suddenly diagnosed with a serious illness and are in hospital when the insurance expires - I'm sure this would be the last thing your mind!
What do the rest of you think?

Where is the IS200 Alarm ECU?
by jimxms, 11-03-2019, 06:10 AM
Might have a bash at fitting my tilt sensor today. I've got the Alarm ECU pinout diagram, but I have no idea where it physically resides in the car :blushing:

Help?!

Replacing spark plugs...... with lasers?
by DaveEdin, 10-03-2019, 02:36 PM
Full article here

Excerpt:

Spark plugs in petrol engines are set to be replaced by laser ignition systems, following development of new manufacturing techniques by Japanese boffins.

The new research is to be presented to the world at an optics conference in Baltimore next month by Takunori Taira of Japan's National Institutes of Natural Sciences and his colleagues. Taira and his team have been working with spark-plug firms and Toyota subsidiaries to address the problems facing ordinary petrol-engine ignition.
