Have a look at my thread in project cars. I've very nearly got an R154 mated to a rebuilt 1UZ... it's not cheap! The V8 has never been mated to anything other than an auto box in stock form and the only off the shelf adaptors that actually work properly are £1500 (including a clutch conversion, flywheel, etc).
If I were doing it in an IS200 I would do something like buying an LS400 for £500, breaking it for parts thus making your engine/ECU free, then I would wait for a supercharged IS200 to turn up, take the S/C off and flog it as people will pay crazy amounts for them and that will greatly offset the cost of the car! Have you already got an IS?
I've got a full VVTi LS400 workshop manual & the engine wiring diagrams (thanks to mattlaw) if you do decide to go down that route.

What about converting my IS200 to an auto and using the LS400 gearbox? altho id need to change the pedals?
it can be done using an SC/GS/LS400 ecu for that engine, with either vvti or non vvti and it will be fully OBDII compliant.
It's easier if you have an IS300 though. Plus if you want vvti your car needs to be a 2001+ or the plugs will be wrong.

the IS300 auto can BOLT UP USING NO CUSTOM PARTS including the prop, if you use a combination of the v8 5 speed auto and IS300 5 speed auto, as they are exactly the same gearbox. The v8 has slightly stronger clutches and a slightly different fitting for the bit at the back, so you need to swap a few components. Also, use the IS300 speed sensor.
edit: you will need the IS300 rear diff too.
TL;DR buy an IS300 and convert that.
