That will teach the owner.

totally worn out and broken, shouting 'Holy ****, WHAT A RIDE!'"

Crazy yanks! What a waste of a car. Why not auction it and put the money into the police force, or give it to underprivileged children or something!!

Unless the driver was racing though a busy area I don't think such a punishment is justified. More appropriate would be to electronically tag/limit his car for a year or something. Force him to do the speed limit everywhere and if he messes up, then repossess his car.

I'm all for crushing it. It is a great example to set. OK you can argue it is a great car but weather it is a great car or not, it's still going to kill someone when it goes wrong. Tallent doesn't always go hand in hand with the ability to be able to afford such cars.

As I have said before, no one will ever be good enough.

Seems just like a power trip to me. Ok fine, take away the car from the owner. But once you've done that, how does what happens to the car next have any bearing on the example they are setting?

The owner has had his car repossessed, he's down $xx,000 - that's all he cares about. Whether it gets crushed or auctioned has no bearing on the lesson imo.

If you really want to do good for the road using public, why not use the money from the car to fund free advanced driving courses for anyone interested? Turn the inability of one person to drive safely, into the ability for several people to drive safer.

Free advanced driving courses is all well and good but you will only ever be preaching to the converted. In my experience of teaching advanced driving there has not been anyone who has done the course who really needs to have done it. The ones who could really benafit from advanced courses think their driving is so good they don't feel the need to do it.

It is important that an example is set to the public by destroying these cars as the shock value alone might just reach those who are unconciously going to kill themselves or someone else.

In terms of selling the vehicles, I feel the money should go to the victims of such colissions as compensation rather be sold to run driving courses. I have for the past three years donated, for free, an hours worth of my time to anyone who wishes to have a go at advanced driving to either IAM standard or RoSPA and so far, this year, not one enquirey.

In a perfect world, brilliant. Lets all do the advanced driving courses. In the current world, cruch every single seized car.

I have to agree with those saying this is stupid. Confiscate the car, yes. Break the car, sell off the parts raising useful revenue, yes.

Simply crushing the car seems like a legal form of mindless violence, not really that different to some moron thugs smashing up a car in the street because they want to.

In that case why not use the money to improve the current 'curriculum' for the passing of a driving test, maybe subsidising the cost of lessons but making them more detailed and lengthy at the same time.

I know this will obviously be quite a personal thing for you as you're an instructor, but for the UK at least I believe the whole driving exam to be a complete sham.

I passed my test just a year ago, and its crazy how easy it is. When I very first got in the car on my own I will confess that I didn't feel ready at all to be 'let loose' on public roads. Let alone to merge onto a motorway with my 3 kids in the back of the car! That's the reason I went ahead and did the pass plus course. Sure it was only a day or two of driving, but it made a massive difference to my confidence in the car.

The reason in my eyes why people don't tend to do advanced courses at this stage is because they are expensive and they've already forked out an enormous amount of money to take the lessons/test and all they have ahead of them is more expenses for car insurance...etc.

Thats very admirable of you, but I believe until it becomes more commonly known, the uptake on said courses will be quite small.

Also if you was to tell drivers that they could get heavily subsidised courses which would help them to be better drivers for their own safety and the safety of their passengers while ALSO giving them lower insurance premiums, I think there would be quite a lot of interest.
