Hi all,

I've read the thread about adding another key to the cars system and I have some questions.

Basically my questions are:

What battery do I need for my buttons? (im hopeing its the battery because the problem is very intermittent! If it isn't I don't know what it is!)

How hard is it to have a key cut if I buy a new case?

(my case has snapped so when i try to start the car I have to hold the key very close to ignition or the case just twists. What I mean by the difficultly of getting a key cut is - could any key cutting place do it or is it a main dealer only thing?)

Also when the car is double locked can only the buttons disarm it?

(my car was double locked this morning and when the buttons didn't work I tried the key in the drivers door and the alarm went off - much to the amusement of my nosey neighbor!)

Thanks

David

i think the baterry you need is a c1616, small watch type bout the size of a 10 pence piece, think lex charge just over a £5 for replacement and fitting or you can get them from ebay for a lot cheaper, linky to some prices http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=c1616+b...36&bih=772

not had to have a new key cut but as long as the shop has the right cutting equipment any smiths should be able to cut it for you

cant rememebr the trick for the alarm i think you just have to do it like you did and disarm it with the ignigtion but someone else will be able to explain it better if there is another way of doing it.

Thanks for the battery number Smile

Funny you should mention the dealership price, I called Lexus newcastle and explained the problem and the bloke in the parts fepartment said I needed a whole new key and it would be £90 + vat, hence why I am going to have a go myself!

Get a case from Ebay, get it cut at local place- (around £10) transfer RC bit from old key (replacing battery at the same time).

job done.

Don't think so... Fairly sure as long as the battery is changed within a minute or so then you're ok.

As I understand it, the key has its signature, which the car will recognise. Too long without a battery and the key forgets its signature, so can't work the car...

Just change it quickly and it'll be fine

You certainly don't need a new key. The cases and blanks are all over ebay for under a tenner, not all key cutting places can cut them, but most will, for £5-10. If you need to reprogramme it at all, I wrote a comprehensive step by step guide on the matter a few years ago, I can send to you if needed.
