1g-fe head skim / compression ratio
by daveb948576, 23-01-2021, 09:41 PM
has anyone skimmed the head a lot to increase the compression ratio of the N/A engine? i'm think about taking about 1mm off the head haha... i know the risks as i've done it to other cars, just want to know if anyone else has tried it on the 1g-fe?

My IS200 Blog

Got this in November last year, with the intentions of tinting the rear windows and leaving it at that, after having a few turbo'd motors for short periods of time each (Afraid to say I won't be going the turbo car route again).

The comfort, equipment levels and surprising the fuel consuption are all fantastic (last car was doing around 12mpg).

However, the need to add things and change things has got the better of me and I have done a couple bits to it, got a few bits in the pipeline too though I'm going to be leaving engine/suspension standard as I like the way it drives as it is.

Pics from the day I got it:

passenger windows wont go up or down.
by daveb948576, 22-01-2021, 08:15 AM
i hear a clicking of a relay form the passenger side when the buttons are pressed on the drivers door, the drivers window works as normal, the button on the drivers door functions as normal because the clicking relay stops when the window-lock is on.

the previous owner had used a piece of wire coming from one fuse to another in the passenger fuse compartment which made the windows work, i removed the wire because i want to get to the bottom of the fault as the windows opened and closed even with the locking button pressed or not, i had no control over the kids opening the windows!

Could this be due to a faulty relay not sending a live (v+) to the windows?

Dave.

Returning from the depths of darkness
by Colin G, 21-01-2021, 08:49 PM
Well I must admit I've not been on here for a while, been nosing around again over the past few days though.

Last time I was on here, I was modding my MX5, well thats gone and I've had a few cars since then. 300ZX twin turbo, Scooby turbo, and my current car a Lexus IS200.

Will get a project blog on the go later for the little Lexus, not had much done to it yet, but only had it for 4 months now. Haven't really got any major plans for it as such, just small bits and pieces here and there as I like the comfort, refineness and economy as it is so I'm likely to leave engine/exhaust/suspension on its standard setup.

the wife has just lost her job,bit of a ***** when there just dont seem to be eney work about at this time.
i only live 2 miles from work so can walk, and it left me thinking do i need my aristo ?
we can make do for a few months if nothing turns up but after that i am going to take a long look at things.i sold my LS400 as i dont need two cars but its left me thinking of just getting a little run a round for now.only thing it was a long hard look for the right aristo and to get all the parts from over sea,s ?
its cost me big bucks to get it all sorted but i think the car is just about all there.if i sold it i would not make my money back and would i get another aristo as good to replace it at some time.:confused1:

Could anyone on here get something laser cut for me?
by sprinter2012, 18-01-2021, 07:25 PM
I'm looking at making a weight sledge for my training, pretty self explanatory really, just a sledge with a bar in the middle you can slot weight discs over.

But I don't want to spend upwards of £80 on one, so I've designed a single piece one that will just need 1 fold, and a small amount of welding to attach the bar.

I need to know how much it will cost to laser cut the following item out of 6mm mild steel?

When it's finished it will look something like this...

Hi guys and gurls, i've heard your all really good with cars which is great, we should get along like a house on fire Wink

i'm after a second opinion with my car, the first opinion is mine lol i'll shut up and get on with it....

the car uses water, not a lot about 2 pints a week i have to keep filling the rad. the engine idles faster than normal around 1000rpm once warm and 1400 when cold. i don't have a thermostat at all but this wouldn't cause a leak/loss of water. the car does not overheat and i have no puddles or coolant on the floor, the radiator was brand new a year ago, i always get a gushing of water inside the car when it's just started up from cold, i've felt around by the heater matrix and everything is dry, i think the head gasket has gone, what do you think?? what can i use to test it? i was thinking about connecting a hose pipe and pressurizing the cooling system with the spark plugs removed the water would enter the bores and i could diagnose which cylinder it was?
