Voodoo Vix's Black Magic Project
by Voodoo Vix, 23-07-2019, 07:59 PM
Right, so for the second time of typing this up as I got logged out the first time when I went to preview it, lets hope it works or I give up lol

Since buying the 350z back in April this year, I've added a few extra goodies, I've been meaning to do a thread for a while but everytime I go to start one I buy something else, so now I'm laying low on modding to save up for coilovers etc. I thought now would be the best time to start.

So when I brought her home in April she already had tinted windows, HKS induction kit and a Nismo brushed aluminium gear knob.

Seeing as she has the Supra as her garage buddy, it was hardly going to stay like that for long so ...

Mike bought me my first mod on ebay - Richbrook Tax Disc Holder

Although the Zed has 18" alloys, due to the depth of the arches they seemed to get a little lost

so I bought 20mm hubcentric spacers from MW Tech Racing, to improve her stance ...

With Japfest only a week away, we tried to smarten her up a bit for her first show. The silver panel in the rear strut brace (can't find a pic) was scuffed and scratched so, out came the Ford Purple Velvet paint

The silver "Z" didn't look right, so that was sprayed black

In June I had a BIG birthday so Mike treated me to some carbon goodies that I wanted Smile

Engine Cover and Cooling Plate

Engine Cover fitted and Mike being Mike, he polished up the bolts too

Cooling Plate now fitted too

Now, I hadn't planned on getting these so soon but due to P15ULT (on the Zed forum) doing a big part out for his 3rd project on the same car, I couldn't pass up the opportunity especially as they are not easy to get hold of!

Envy Polished Coolant and Power Steering Tanks

All fitted

More to come so bear with me Smile

Hi all just starting a progress thread as ive done a bit to my car now,

well i got the car at the beginning f the year, as i was getting bored of my yaris SR 1.8 and wanted something bigger and rwd.

when i first got it very plain and dirty.
[Image: 180290_10150397711220500_574495499_16920...8252_n.jpg]

1st mod sport grill
[Image: 190338_10150426457995500_574495499_17332...7958_n.jpg]

then i refurbed the alloys and painted them gold, and changed the sprigs got a 20-30mm drop.
[Image: 199613_10150432359065500_574495499_17400...6163_n.jpg]

[Image: 196712_10150461743965500_574495499_17744...4765_n.jpg]

then i went nur spec.
[Image: 207864_10150556715730500_574495499_17971...5344_n.jpg]

the timing belt was well over due changing so with help from a guide in the loc i decided to do it myself, and went fine.
[Image: 254956_10150663713210500_574495499_19088...6570_n.jpg]

i didnt have much going on and was going to a few meets at the time so give the engine bay a real good clean, took ages and was so messy but was so worth it.
[Image: 263134_10150680310910500_574495499_19260...3056_n.jpg]

Then the real fun started as i managed to get a tte supercharger kit, so i have fun installing that
[Image: 318377_10150763783190500_574495499_20248...9940_n.jpg]

well i had fun until i started to drive and hit fuel cut at 5k rpm most horrible feeling ever.
[Image: 297755_10150763818255500_574495499_20248...7712_n.jpg]

but after a bit of trial and error i got it working.

[Image: 315395_10150772606695500_574495499_20353...9030_n.jpg]

well i could tell that my car was a lot more responsive and took of a lot quicker, but i wanted a gauge so i can keep a check on the boost plus i think it looks good.
[Image: 310256_10150784591945500_574495499_20486...2885_n.jpg]

Well thats all ive done so far but plenty more to come, ive order a hks ssbov
well a fake one for the price i payed but im sure some other have it and that do the job fine, and il be doing more visual mods in the future, alloys skirts splitter etc.

Back boosting again :)
by jimxms, 23-07-2019, 01:57 PM
So I started at 11am this morning with the eye to doing everything properly and sorting out all the niggles I had from my previous supercharger install.

Unfortunately I didn't take many pics, just got stuck in instead. But here's my work list:

1. Cut the header heatshield so that it no longer hits against the supercharger

2. Fully clean the engine bay as there's all kinds of metal shavings and stuff floating about in there.

3. Clean the radiator and rad fans as they are covered in sticky white stuff (coolant)

4.Mount new Supercharger....

One thing that really annoyed me with the previous install was that straight out of the supercharger outlet it hit a 45deg bend, then a 30deg bend in the other direction. So I rotated the supercharger volute slightly and managed to get it to line up perfectly with anothe rpipe below. This allowed me to use 30cm of 4ply to join the two in a straight line. Totally eliminating all bends:

5. I'm also getting a bit tired of blue, so I started wrapping some of the cables in black or stainless steel braid:

For anyone who wants blue stuff (tubes, hose, wire...etc) let me know as I'm going to be selling a lot of it shortly.

Took the car out for a quick drive at about 4pm once I'd finished and MAAAAAAAN is it good to be boosting again. Highest I've hit so far was 12.9PSI, but that was with the car in 'D' and no sports mode so it was shifting gears lower down the RPM range.

by BOOSST, 23-07-2019, 08:13 AM

Woohoo, its not back here from its 10 month storage for one whole day & work has started, engine and box are out! Took about 5 hours inc getting it clear of the car.

tomorrow il be splitting the engine and box and fitting a very sexy OSgiken twin plate clutch i got last year, then prepping head and block surface for a 1.4mm Cometic mls head gasket thats going on with ARP studs & nuts

busy busy busy, lol

day two

We got the engine and box seperated today ready to install the OSgiken TS2B twin plate racing clutch, trouble is friction plate No 2 was really too worn to be reliable so a new plate has been ordered and @ £250 it means the cost of the clutch is £500 BUT it would be £1200 if new, the new plate will be here on Friday. im going to change the rear main seal too just in case

Just as well the new clutch includes a new flywheel as the old one was in a right state

OH and with the engine out i found the cause of my high idle problem that i coudnt iron out, some idiot at some time has bypassed the power steering idle up valve on the pas pump, the 2 vac hoses to the valve have been joined together so now it has a constant vac leak as opposed to only when you hit full lock.

Day three

I got the head off this morning and i was pleased to see NO CORROSION in the head coolant channels at all but good grief there all so blocked up I'm amazed it only overheated on boost lol

Then i took some measurement off the OS clutch plates just to see how worn No2 plate was

Compared to No1 plate which is in very good condition

This leaves me with just under 1.4mm of compression of the plate/s assembly so with the new plate in all should be fine and dandy.

New plate should be here tomorrow and the Extremely pleasant people at RB racing from where its coming from are even sending me an old input shaft i can use as a clutch aligner. i tend to wrap tape round an extension and this has always worked very well as you Can get it the exact size BUT with twin plates are twin splines, and not only do the plates have to be centred the splines have to line up too.

Also have a new rear main crank shaft oil seal coming too.

It looks like the gearbox has been overhauled some time in its life as there is orange sealer visible at the many casing joints AND the oil was like new, very clean and golden in colour too, so thats a good thing lol

Oh and i been thinking, the fact the PAS idle up valve was bypassed would have given me a loss in boost as well as a vac leak!!

Well I logged onto the club just now and I've had my Outlaw status removed because my membership has just run out.

I think it would have been more sensible to leave it alone and get payment sorted out at JAE to save on pay pal charges etc etc.

To do this to an long serving outlaw is just wrong :angry::angry::angry:

just to say I'm not very happy :Bazza:
