IS200/300 head unit illumination/dimming

When I installed my new head unit, I saw that it had a dimming feature. A lot of head units have this, though not all. To use this feature on mine, it needs switching on in the head unit menus (default is off). With the dimming function active and connected up, when I turn the lights on, the head unit illumination automatically dims.

You don't need to connect this up at all, but here's a brief guide if you want to do it.

On the picture below, you can see the amp bypass lead already connected in my car (with two connectors, a black one and a brown one). The OEM connector that used to plug into the OEM head unit is the white one with lots of wires going into it. You should be able to see an orange wire coming off the black bypass lead connector. This orange wire is the illumination wire, and the bypass lead that I bought had a scotchlock connector on the end already :




You can check out the wiring diagrams in the online manual to see which wire you need to tap into for illumination (look under "Electrical Wiring Diagram", then "System Circuits", then "Illumination". My car is a 1999 Sport model (with amp, 8-speaker system), and on mine it's a green wire that goes into pin 2 of the white OEM connector. Beware though, there is more than one green wire (on mine at least), so make sure you pick the right one ! In the picture below is it the green wire second from left, next to the red one :




Now you need to connect the orange wire from the bypass lead into this green OEM wire. I used the scotchlock that came with my bypass lead, and here it is connected :




To finish off the wire, and unconnected with the dimming, here's another picture, showing where I've connected power for the aerial amplifier (blue lead on the amp bypass cable, connecting to the black wire that runs alongside the main aerial wire), after cutting off the OEM white connector on this black wire :

direct access bike courses

im seriously considdering doing my direct access course very soon,as ive been putting it off for a year or 2.
my questions are
1) should i buy my own bike to learn on so i get to know my bike instead of using the course owned bikes.

2) will i be able to insure it as im learning.

3) any tips that i can learn from other riders on here.

Hi folks,

Just thought I would throw my 2pence in about windows7 as i've been testing it since beta. Just installed the final version now which i've got as a RTM and I have to say it's absolutely phenominal, very fast and a lot lot better than Vista.

Seen on the M25 roundabout M3 Junction being closely followed by a tasty looking Supra (I don't like Supras but this one was very nice indeed).

I assume the IS was 'Charged as it had an intercooler and lots of TRD stickers, I think it also had an owners club sticker but not sure as it was raining hard and I was concentrating driving (slightly more important than car spotting).

Ok guys and girls Im gonna try to get some boom boom into my lex. First off I have got the amp bypass cable from an ebay shop with the front facia.

Im going to be using an old but mint condition HU a pioneer 7700MP. I have played with the facia to see how it all fits but Im a lil unsure the best way to put it together.

Option 1 is to use the Din cage that i had with the HU but this leaves the HU sitting further in than I would like. (I thought the HU would sit a little more proud of the facia)

Option 2 is to ditch the Din cage and use the ISO plastic clips that come with the facia and also use the facia surround from the kit instead of the surround on the HU.

Not sure what you guys have done with your installs ??

I have also managed to souce (via ebay) an aux in connector for my HU which plugs into the cd changer input and gives you a 3.5mm jack to plug in pretty much any audio device. I want to route this to the top tray on the dash any one got any ideas on this ?? I have seen some people put a mic in the top tray before just wondering if any one has any tips ??


The final part of this cheap install with be the fitting of my old kenwood (digital) amp and a pair of boxed cheap pioneer subs.

All this ice ive had lying around since my old car (honda civic coupe) just been too scared to mod the lexus as it isnt as straight forward as any of my previous motors lol !!!
